RE: [ST] New ST owner - questions

Good job on getting back on a ride, and a nice choice of ride it is! I find
that the bike does throw out quite a bit of heat from the engine. I've
never really complained about it, but it is significant none-the-less. As
for the tires, a lot of options here and a lot of different opinions on what
is best. However, just to give you a sense of where you might want to head
here, if you do any aggressive riding you'll probably want something a bit
softer than the BT57's. I personally think that Bridgestone's are excellent
tires, but with some harder riding, the BT57 (or BT56 for that matter) is
not really up to it. You can do a little hard riding with it, so if it's
rare and you want mileage - stick with it. However, a change to the BT 10
reaped a considerable gain in performance. So again, if you want some
confidence inspiring tires for hard riding, upgrade to something softer.
Lastly, I go with the Triumph Mobil 1 oil. Good Luck!

PS - the 99 didn't come in BRG - had to wait till '01 for that

Subject: [ST] New ST owner - questions

I picked up a 99 ST today :)
I have been without a bike for 4 years :(

Last bike was a 91 VFR and before that a 94 VFR.

First impression - Nice bike!

The engine is a stonker. Like the looks (ended up with Red but wanted BRG).
They say it throws out less heat than a Daytona 595 but it still throws out
quite a bit of heat (it is bloody hot out today though).

One thing I was not totally happy with was the front brakes. They seemed a
bit spongy. The bike has 13.6K on it and nothing has been done to them so
perhaps they just need bleeding?

Also it has the original front tire on it. My guess is it will need changing
soon. The rear tire is almost new. He decided to go with another Battlax but
he said it is a SS model which means the rubber is harder in the middle than
on the edges?!

Does anyone have any experience with this Battlax BT57 SS? If the front does
not have enough tread to get an inspection should I get another Battlax for
the front or ditch them both and go with another brand? What are the
favorite tires for this bike?

Do you guys use the Triumph Mobile 1 oil or just regular Mobile 1 oil?

Rupert (Just outside Boston, MA)
