[ST] Batteries

Richard, in addition checking your voltage regulator, are you SURE you have an automatic "trickle" charger? If your charger doesn't shut down when the batt is fully charged, it could be frying your battery.
Like others have posted, I've given my OEM batt some pretty hard knocks (parking light, twice, "testing" my electronics package:V1,XM, amplilfier, GPS) Besides completely killing it twice with the parking lights, I've run it down so much that is would barely turn over, and once didn't even start the bike. My Battery Tender has always brought it back to "groovy". It's going on 5 years old now and still going strong. Every time I go to the battery store I think I should pick up a spare, just in case, but I decide against it because I don't want the warranty to run on my shelf.
Perhaps someone with far more moto-electro-savy than I will post, but if you put a voltmeter on your battery terminal with the bike running and it reads more than say 14 volts, you've got a problem.
