Rupert,
I had my grips installed by the dealer when I bought
my bike. That is the way they install them. It's
worked really well for me.

Ed,
I am aware of this issue for aftermarket heated grips
but would not
expect a large difference with factory heated grips.
I did not have
the Triumph heated grips on my bike so I don't have
direct experience.
