FWIW at my 500 mile service the dealer changed oil+filter, checked
and adjusted clutch cable and throttle cable, checked brakes, checked
and adjusted chain tension, checked tire pressures, adjusted the
headlight beam, checked the computer for any faults code (none) and
checked CO and adjusted to 3%. I'm assuming that they also re-torqued
anything that was called for. Also at that time they installed the
heated grips with euro switch and installed the 2 pannier set. It may
very well be that one could do their own 500 mile service , BUTT if
you have any warranty problems down the road that's one of the first
maintenance issues that TOA is going to make sure was done, and done
correctly. There was much talk on the various BMW lists about this
exact subject. Even the acknowledge BMW gurus ( IE Paul Glaves
current President of the BMWMOA and Master BMW Tech) strongly
recommend that a BMW dealer does the first service even if it is well
within ones abilities to do it themselves.
